Silicone And Saline: Two Common Types Of Breast Implants
There are two common types of breast implants: implants filled with silicone and implants filled with saline. Saline implants were initially more popular than silicone implants because of restrictions of silicone and it remains that way today because during the procedure, a smaller cut is needed to plant the prostheses. This is due to the fact that silicone implants require filling with the substance prior to being placed inside the breasts, clearly requiring a larger cut. Saline implants may be inserted through a smaller incision and filled up after they are properly positioned within the breast tissue.
